President's Message

The Mancuso Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza in Oaks had some wonderful quilts in the Show. Terry Kramzar, one of our Guild members, had 2 quilts in the show. Her “Becket Mountain Trilliums” won a blue ribbon for Wall Quilt, Best Interpretation of a Theme. She also had her “Bike Love” quilt in the show. I loved that one too! Congratulations, Terry!

Our Guild’s Show and Tell is also so inspiring. It was impressive to see a “Bee” show their Quilted Village quilts. Our Show & Tell is definitely a highlight of the meeting. Check out the website Show and Tell page to see pictures of our most current and some past Show & Tells.

We have had some great speakers, Pat Sloan, Lea McComas, Pat & Arlan Christ.  Looking ahead we have Kathy Loomis in October and Veronica Findley Wolfe in November (meeting location is Paoli Presbyterian in November). The workshops, when offered are very informative and fun. Thanks go to Cheryl Lynch and Kelly Meanix for their great work. Be sure to read the newsletter to keep up on upcoming events!

When you’re checking in, be sure to pick up a Calico Cutter bookmark, Susan Linton put these together for us! They include a list of the monthly speakers and their website.

I’m getting ready for the Retreat. I have to pull together some projects to work on in October. I already have some ideas: half square triangles, doing something with the selvages, unfinished projects …there are lots of options! Hope to see you there!

November 9, 2016 - Victoria Findlay Wolfe, “15 Minutes of Play”

Victoria is one of the pre-eminent quilters in the Modern Quilting world. She bridges the gap between traditional and modern, especially when you view her current Double Wedding Ring quilts. Her talk, about her process and how to push your creativity will be accented with loads of quilts. Raffle Quilt

A little less than 3 months remain before we draw the winner of our Raffle Quilt.  Please remember to turn in your tickets.  We do have more tickets, if you would like to sell more.  Please work hard to sell your 30 tickets and as many more as possible. It is a great cause and our goal is to sell all 6,000 tickets we printed.

We rented a booth at the Malvern Oktoberfest and Bark in the Park.  Thanks to those who volunteered to help staff the booth and sell tickets.

If you are not going to be able to sell your tickets or don't plan on picking them up, please let us know so we can repurpose them to another seller.   Thanks!

Education Notes

I strongly encourage each and every one of you to read Lori Kennedy’s blog post on sewing machine safety on her blog The Inbox Jaunt.  She had to have the tip of a needle and thread from her sewing machine needle surgically removed from her finger three years ago.  Her tips for not doing that again are good ones.  You can read it here:  http://theinboxjaunt.com/2016/09/08/hard-lessons/

Quilt Show News had a great video with tips for threading needles as our eyes get a little worse every year (not you, of course!).  http://quiltshownews.com/2662/threading-a-needle-tips-to-overcome-vision-issues/

Let me know if you find a great tip so I can share it here.

Thanks,  Lynne Laino

Just a heads up that when you are deleting the Newsletter from your email list please be sure to actually delate it.  Some of our members are instead marking it as spam.  This causes problems on the back end that lead some of the internet email services to block our newsletters going out.  So please make sure you are hitting the delete button.
