President's Message

What a great time it was at the Retreat! There were many interesting projects being worked on by members. I’m sure we will be seeing some at Show & Tell. The Retreat is a good time to be able to connect with members, relax and have fun listening to everyone’s stories and dreams!  Maybe some of us got some shopping in too. Thanks go to Lee Paylor and Sharon Nungester for organizing the event.

I’m looking forward to going to the Houston International Quilt Show in November. There are so many wonderful quilts on display, great classes and lectures, and so many vendors. If you get a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

Congrats goes to Roni Conner, for winning third place for her quilt at the Brandywine Valley Quilt Show!

Our November Meeting is at Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 S. Valley Road, Paoli.  Our speaker will be Victoria Findlay Wolfe.  I think you’ll be inspired by her creativity. Please remember to bring some $ to support our bake sale!

December’s meeting will be back at our regular location in West Chester. It will be our December Holiday Meeting. Our Hospitality Committee will have lots of good food and the Bingo prizes sound great. The Challenge committee will also be presenting this years challenge.

Monthly Charitable Gifts

Eight large bags of clothing and five equally large bags of assorted toiletries were delivered to the Coatsville VA following our October meeting. As always, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

In November, we will be collecting hats, scarves and mittens for several homeless shelters and the Children's Alopecia Project.  You may purchase or make any type of hat, scarf and/or mittens for children, men and women. The Children's Alopecia Project suggests a fleece hat/cap. For your convenience, a pattern for a fleece beanie is attached.

Looking ahead to December, we will be collecting "wish list" items for the Domestic Violence Center. The list of requested items will be provided at our next meeting. In addition, we are collecting Acme stamps for Faberware pots and pans for the Domestic Violence Center. Stamps can be given to Ann McErlean or Janet Creely.

Thanks again for all your generous donations,  Ann McErlean & Janet Creely

Soldier Quilts

We received 28 patriotic quilts from the Tel Hai sewing group and 2 from Delores Holywarth and Betty Dix.  They will be delivered to the Coatesville VA Medical Center.

Kids Quilts

Don't let the families who take refuge with the Domestic Abuse Center go without our quilts next year.  It is time to step up and volunteer to take over Kids Quilts, the current committee is  stepping down in June 2017.
This is a great way for a bee or a group of friends to contribute their time for something that will benefit others.  Our bee has had a wonderful 7 years getting together doing Kids Quilts, but it is time for us to pass on our cutters and boards and piles of fabric to another group.  Come and talk to us at the Kids Quilts table in the coming months.

Kelly Meanix is asking for help moving supplies to the Kids Quilts sew-in in January.  This is not a job to be done by one person, 2 or 3 helping hands would be great.  Please give your name to Kelly at the next meeting or contact her through the Guild e-mail.

In October 20 quilts were donated by:  Rosemary Lynch, Jane Roberts,  Gail Pickett, Mary Ellen Josephson, Nancy Giloley, Rose Morgan, 12 from Tel Hai, Roseann Hartigen and Betty Dix.  Thank you all for your donation of your time and your quilts.

See everyone in November.

Education Notes

 November Education Notes

This is a wonderful message received from a newsletter reader who is not a member of our guild:

Hi Terry, I wanted to email you to say thanks for your page, http://calicocutters.com/quilting-tips/. I volunteer with a youth group where we have different activities for local kids. We are starting a sewing and fiber arts program, so we wanted to find some resources to share with the kids. Your page has some great stuff – thanks for all the help!  One of the kids in my group, Bella, found a great resource on sewing: http://www.homeadvisor.com/r/home-hobbies-sewing-resources/ . Can you add this to your list of resources? She has been helping teach some of the younger kids some basic sewing, so I thought this would give her some extra encouragement by sharing her find online. Plus, we thought it would make a great addition for others to learn from. If you have more tips or information for the kids, I’ll make sure to share it with them. Thanks again! Take care, Denise Morales

I’d like to give a big shout-out to Bella for giving us this link.  Please don’t miss it because it’s chock-full of great ideas and tutorials!  Thanks for helping us out and reading our Newsletter Bella!  How wonderful that our Newsletter is helping future quilters!

Thanks,  Lynne Laino
