Reminder:  With a very full schedule planned for this meeting, we are asking everyone to only bring in show and tell items if there is a timing issue in that you would not have it available when we resume our usual show and tell schedule at the June Meeting.  Also, a reminder there is no show and tell at the May auction and luncheon.

 President's Message

As I write this, winter storm Stella is on the way! I have rescued my spring daffodils. They will be a wonderful reminder that Spring is on its way while its snowing out my window. I’m hoping the snow doesn’t stay around too long! I’m ready to stay in and work on some unfinished projects (challenge included)!

At our March Guild Meeting Margo Rogozinski, raffle quilt chairperson, and her committee were able to present Terry Moody, from the Chester County Domestic Violence Center with a check for $3,348.43! What a great job! Thanks go to all who worked on this quilt. It was stunning.

We have some fun meetings coming up. In April we will be celebrating our 30th Anniversary. We look forward to welcoming charter members and past presidents. Member’s challenges will also be displayed and voted on. In April our speaker is Barb Vedder. Because of our full schedule our show and tell will be limited this month.

In May our Auction and Luncheon will be held. Just a reminder: Cindy and Catherine are ready to receive your donations for the Auction!! This is always a great event with wonderful classes and baskets to bid on. Stephanie and her committee will also be announcing the winners of the challenge in May.

A black vest was left at the last meeting. If your missing one – I have it!

Happy Spring!

Terry Seeley

May 10 - Ways and Means Auction

Donations Needed for May 10th Auction

We are quickly approaching our May 10th Auction and we still need many more donations.

This event is our Guild’s most important fundraiser.  Funds raised go toward the high quality speakers and workshops we enjoy, as well as subsidize the operations of our Guild and its charitable activities.

If you haven’t as yet thought about donating, here are some ideas:

• Homemade or handmade items – show off your talents!

• Edible, decorative, and functional items are welcome.

• New or gently used items

• Classes or services:  Do you have a hobby or talent you want to share? Consider donating a class or service.  In the past members have offered cooking, knitting, appliqué, paper piecing, quilting, painting, binding, and gardening.  Contact us with your idea.

• Do you have connections with a vendor who might be willing to donate a gift certificates or discount coupon? Please contact us and we can give you the official guild letter to take with you.

Your donation does not need to be sewing related.  Please bring your donation to the April meeting or contact Cindy Zencey or Catherine Morano to arrange for pickup.

It is through the generosity of our guild members that makes this event so successful each year!

Challenge Quilt 2017

At the April 12th meeting we can't wait to see what our members come up with!!!

The theme is "What Calico Cutters Means" to me.

• Must be 15" by 20" in a vertical direction.  No landscape. So the height is 20" and the with is 15"

• The special fabric received at the December meeting must be identifiable somewhere on the front of the quilt.

• Due at the April meeting where they will be voted on by the members.  Winners of the ten categories of prizes will be announced at the May 30th Anniversary Auction and Tea.

• Quilts must be completed, quilted and bound, with a sleeve and label. Quilt must be an original design, not from a copyright pattern or book. You may use a block pattern that is in the public domain (traditional quilt blocks).  You MAY enter a quilt made from a pattern or book but it will not be eligible to be voted on.

IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE MORE OF THE CELEBRATORY FABRIC: The fabric is listed as Polka Dot Scissors by Cheryl Lynch QuiltsSearching for Polka Dot Scissors didnt work.  Click here to take you to the Spoonflower site.

Monthly Charitable Gifts

Thank you all for your most generous contributions for Home of the Sparrow. We stuffed the trunk of the car with an amazing assortment of items from their wish list including gift cards and monetary gifts. All were well received and will go a long way in support of their mission.

As Ann discussed at our March meeting, Jennersville Hospital, which has been the recipient of our "baby bundles" in the past, is no longer providing maternity services. Most of the women are going to Chester County Hospital. We have made a connection with the CCH Prenatal Clinic and they were most excited that we wanted to provide baby items for them. In addition to their OB clinic, they also conduct classes on baby care and postpartum depression.

At our APRIL meeting, we will be collecting any/all purchased or hand made baby hats, blankets, onesies and other clothing from newborn to 18 month sizes (which are distributed as needed). In addition, baby shampoo, wipes, etc. are also appreciated.

Thank you again, for your continuing generosity.

Ann and Janet

Special Events

I hope you have been working on your nine patch blocks. Now that the guild challenge is done, you should have plenty of time to work on it in between all your other projects. We have permission from the Board to share our creations at the June meeting. Please plan to share even if your top is not finished!

Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

CCQG Quilt Show 2018

The search for a venue for the Quilt Show continues. We are looking for a place in West Chester if possible.  After that is found, we will begin setting up the committees.  Please think about joining a committee.  We will need people to work on the Boutique, Programs, setting up and taking down, vendors, raffle baskets and chairpersons for these committees.  I will have specific sign up sheets as we get further along in the process.  Please think about helping out.  It will be a chance to have some fun and meet new people and showcase our talents.

Kids Quilts

March 2017

Terry Moody, the representative from the Domestic Abuse Center attended our March meeting.  After a speech thanking the guild for everything that has been done by the guild members for the DAC, she took away 20 kids quilts.  The quilts were donated by: Sandy Jackson, Betty Dix, Gail Pickett, Diana Capaldi, Ann Congdon and several anonymous donors.  Please sign up when you drop off a quilt. Thank you all

After June there will be a new commitee taking over  Kids Quilts.  The present Kids Quilts group certainly have enjoyed working with the guild members to produce a huge number of quilts over the years.  We know the new people of Kids Quilts will have the same satisfaction we have had working together on the committee.  In the meantime we will be bringing new kits for you to choose from and finish as usual.

See you all in April.  The Kids Quilt Committee.

Education Notes

April 2017 Education Notes

Barb Vedder, our April speaker, posted a great tip on her Instagram page (funwithbarb).  She discovered that Yoga Gloves are a very helpful tool for machine quilting!  I have never seen them before but they are fingerless knit gloves with pretty patterned rubbery dots for gripping.  You can find them at Target in the Yoga aisle, most sporting goods stores and Amazon.

I keep several tools specifically for workshops and retreats and recently saw a great use for those plastic hotel keycards.  They make great seam pressing tools right at your machine.  So the next time you come home with one, throw it in your tool kit.
