President's Message

Happy Thanksgiving.  I don’t know how it happened, but next week we will celebrate my favorite holiday---Thanksgiving.  I love to gather together with family and friends and share a wonderful  meal .  I have experienced my share of dry turkey and watery mashed potatoes with my family, but that only makes the memories more fun.  This year I will be flying to New Mexico to spend the holiday with my youngest daughter whom I haven’t seen in over a year,  and haven’t spent a holiday with in ten years.  It is that gathering together that counts.

We had a wonderful meeting with Melissa Sobotka last week, and next month we will have our annual holiday party.  We will again be back at Goshen Fire Hall.  This meeting will be for MEMBERS ONLY.  We will not be able to accommodate any guests at that meeting.  We will have a brunch, Show and Tell and some lively games.  It’s a good chance to catch your breath and visit with friends during the holidays.

In January we will have a Charity Sew-in instead of our usual business meeting.  We will sew quilts for two of our charities this year—Kids Quilts and Veterans Quilts.  You can bring your machines or not, and sew or cut kits for either charity.  More about that next month.

Don’t forget our sew-in on November 30th.  There are still some spots left.  It’s a chance to meet some new people and catch up on some of your own projects.  It’s a busy month, but a time for giving thanks for all we have.  So, enjoy your holiday and we’ll get together again in December for more good times.

Pat Barton

CCQG Quilt Show 2018

Pat's Quilt Show Report

Leslie O’Brien and Catherine Morano are making progress on getting our vendors wrapped up for the show.  There will be five vendors if all sign on.  It will be a good mix of known and new local shops.

Roni Connor will be collecting items for the boutique.  Stephanie Bratsky will handle the quilt challenge for the” Do Not Touch” quilts which will be due in February.  Mini Quilts can be turned in at any time to Cindy Zencey or Terry Seeley.

Information will be coming soon on registration. I need to fill other positions on the committee now that the time is coming closer for the show.  I need help for making signs, getting door prizes, hanging and taking down quilts, bake sale, admissions and programs.  If you can help on any of these committees, please let me know.  Thank you

Pat Barton

News from Roni Connor, CCQG Quilt Show Boutique Chair!
Quilt Show Boutique Items

We would like to run the boutique as a mini quilt store, what we are looking for in donations are jelly-rolls, layer cakes, charm packs and fat quarters.

We are also looking for neatly packaged quilt kits, that you may have purchased and discovered you no longer want to complete or have never started.

New or gently-used quilting items such as thread, pins, rulers, Etc.

Homemade gifts, such as pin cushions, hand and tote bags, Etc.

New and gently used quilt books and patterns, from the last 4 years or so.
With an emphasis on  modern and jelly-roll, fat quarter, layer cake and charm pack friendly patterns.

Due to our limited space we will not be accepting yardage, magazines, older books, older patterns and older notions.

Please bring your donations to the guild meetings. If you need me to pick them up from your home, just call or email me.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Thank you in advance for your continuous generosity and support to the Calico Cutters Quilt Guild,

Roni  Connor
Quilt Show Boutique chairperson

Education Notes

Every month our Education Chair, Christine Fallon, provides us some tips or information regarding the art of quilting.  For Education Archives by topic, go to the bottom of this page for links.

December 2017

Fill several bobbins before you start to machine quilt.  When the bobbin runs out you can replace the bobbin without moving your quilt.  Keeps the top thread continuous.

If you are making a quilt for a baby girl, save the scraps and make a doll quilt too!

White tissue paper can be used as tracing paper.

To make hand sewing easier you can wear a secretary’s rubber finger on your index finger.  This helps to pull your needle through the fabric.

Remove fabrics from the dryer while they are damp.  Makes ironing so much easier.

Save your leftover unused bamboo skewers from those summer barbeques.  They work perfectly as a stiletto.
