Picture Perfect Applique
Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media, in which an artist studies a photograph and then attempts to reproduce the image as realistically as possible in another medium.
In this workshop, Melissa will share with you her award winning techniques for transforming a photograph into a masterpiece of fiber art.
You will learn to see as an artist does, select appropriate fabrics, build a image using a raw edge applique method. Then enhance your work by adding depth, dimension and detail with inks.
A fee of $25 for required kit that includes:
Image of Frog for pattern
Hand selected fabrics
Use of Inks provide during class
From Melissa–This is a no sew class. Students will not be at a point in the project where they can sew.
You will need to bring:
Fusible adhesive – she recommends that you use whatever light weight fusible you are comfortable with. She has a favorite and will bring a little to show you.
Small iron (clover works well)
Teflon pressing sheet
Small Sharp Scissors
Small paint brushes (#2
are good choices) – Melissa recommends small, nothing larger than a #12. They are used for blending and detail and do not need to be expensive. She will have a few with her for purchase.
Personal light table (or you may use a window or iPad)
1 Fat Quarter of Background Fabric (light is best)
