Every Spring I fall in love with all the shades of green! It is such a beautiful time of the year. It inspires me to work on something flowery. Maybe a UFO!

Our April Meeting was full of fun and festivities. The 30th Anniversary was a great success. It was nice to hear about the history of the Guild from Marion Mackey. The cake and decorations were beautiful and all enjoyed the challenge quilts. Many of our VIP guests, and members have commented on how much they enjoyed the day.

To everyone who entered the challenge – congrats! How creative everyone’s ideas were. It was fun to see the variations of the challenge fabric used in the quilts and how they represented the idea of “What Calico Cutters Means to Me”. We have a very creative group!

This month we have our Auction and Luncheon. The committee is busy putting together beautiful baskets. I just dropped off a big box of great layer cake fabric that came in the mail. Our May meeting is always fun and entertaining! I hope to bid on some classes.

A few dates to remember: May 3, 4, 5, 2018 – Calico Cutters Quilt Show! See Pat Barton if you would like to volunteer.

Reminder:  Please try to get your membership renewal in as soon as possible for this next Guild calendar year. You can also mail them to our address at the end of the newsletter.

See you at the Auction/Luncheon!

Terry

June 14 - Maxine Rosenthal

"One Block Wonders" - Maxine Rosenthal came to quilting via a path that included writing software and refinishing furniture. Fascinated by kaleidoscopes, she explores the patterns that develop when fabric is cut and re-joined to create new designs.  Her book is titled:  One-Block Wonders: One Fabric, One Shape, One-of-a-Kind Quilts.  If you have made a one block wonder quilt, make sure you bring it for Show & Tell.

Kids Quilts

Two more months to go before a new Kids Quilts Committee takes over.   The current committee knows you will wholeheartedly support the new crew.  We could not have done our job well without your enthusiastic support.  We look forward to lending a hand when they take over in July.

Thanks go to Gail Pickett for donating four kids quilts at the April meeting.

See everyone at the May Guild meeting.

Education Notes

May 2017 Education Notes

Chef’s Choice has made an electric, top-rated knife sharpening tool for years and now they have an electric Diamond Hone Scissor Sharpener!  Most of us have a drawer full of scissors and it’s imperative that they are sharp.  It’s not a cheap appliance with a $99 retail price so maybe a few friends can go in on it.  Another plus is that Chef’s Choice is a Pennsylvania company located in Avondale!  Click here for more details.

Solid fabrics are very popular now with the popularity of modern quilts and it can be very difficult to discern which color is which.  When you purchase solid fabrics, use a fineline Sharpie to write name of the color on the selvage edge to make identifying shades easier.

The Penn Oaks quilt guild is having their semi-annual quilt show at Ludwig’s Corner on May 5 & 6.  If you’ve never been, you are missing out!  There are so many beautiful quilts on display, wonderful vendors, raffles to win incredible quilts and gift baskets and great food!  Put it on your calendar for a great time!  Click here for more information
