President's Message

Happy New Year, everyone.  Yes, 2018 is here and we are off to a roller coaster weather ride.  I hope everyone is able to stay warm and safe during these icy cold days.

We had a wonderful sew-in last week.  Cathy Fasy, Jackie Frye and their committee provided kits for Kids Quilts, and members put their sewing machines to work. Quilts were sandwiched and tied by others and our design walls were put to good use. Cathy sends thanks to all members who participated and for their donations of fabric and batting.

Gail Pickett sends her thanks for the help given to her committee of one for Veterans’ quilts. She is very appreciative of all the work that was accomplished at the sew-in.  Veterans’ quilts are well under way, from every stage of planning to kits and sewing, and she thanks you for your support and help.

February we will have our members’ demos as well as the “Don’t Touch” challenge.  It is another fun meeting and a chance to meet more people.  These not so structured meetings give us a great opportunity to enjoy the easy, social part of quilting and learn more in the bargain.

The Quilt Show is ready to really get moving.  I will be giving a report at the February meeting in the demo group.  You will have a chance to sign up for a specific job for the show or as an overall helper. Any time you can give will be greatly needed and appreciated.

So, enjoy your winter with lots of time for quilting.  Let it snow if it must, but we can create warmth and laughter with our quilts!!!

January News

Thanks to all who participated in our "quilt-a-thon" this month to make children's quilts for the Domestic Violence Center of West Chester . This year, in addition to the children's quilts, we worked on patriotic quilts for the veterans. There should be a final count of both types of quilts completed by our next meeting.

The charity for February is walker bags, which will be given to Pembrooke, Brandywine and Pocopson Homes. Click here for two patterns.

Thank you again, for your continuing support of our charitable projects.

Stay warm,

Veterans' Quilts

January  2018 - Thank you from Gail

Thank you to every one who helped make veteran quilts; from donation of fabric to all the other chores involved. We had many women helping, I am so grateful. Special thanks to Cindy Zencey who had my back. We will see how many quilts get finished and how soon, and then deliveries get made. Keep up the tremendously good work! I am still in need of fabric donations appropriate for veteran quilts, red, white, blue, gold, stars, stripes, flags, etc. I will use smaller pieces for kits..just wait for the surprise each month..I am a dreamer! I know what a group of women from Calico Cutters can accomplish!

If anyone is interested in getting together to plan, pool fabric, cut and sew, please contact Gail Picket.

Every quilt is a gift and our veterans thank you.

Education Notes

February 2018

I just took a ride to The Quilt Ledger in Christiana, PA.  They have an enormous selection of Allison Glass and Tula Pink fabrics.  Plus they offer a 10% discount to guild members!!

Remember that your phone’s camera is your best friend when taking a workshop.  Take photos of any class instructions or examples that you may forget later on.

My Ipad is right next to my sewing machine so that I can catch up on my You Tube subscriptions while I am sewing.

Keep your leftover pieces of batting in the original bag.  No more guessing about the fiber content!

Save your holiday address labels that everyone receives in the mail.   Put some in your purse to use at guild meetings for raffle chances or special drawings.
