MARCH PROGRAM:

Joan Radell

Wednesday, March 12, 2025
PARC Campus Doors open at 9:15 AM
Meeting starts at 9:45 AM

Joan Radell doesn’t remember not being able to use a sewing machine. With a strong foundation in garment construction, Joan got hooked on quilting in 1991, and made her first handbag in 2010. She published her first handbag pattern in 2015, under the Bucklebee by Me label. She’s known for her love of bright and bold color and pattern, and unexpected, whimsical fabric combinations. In 2016, Joan launched Bucklebee Toolbox, devoted to designing better tools for all kinds of sewing. She markets her tools and patterns online at bucklebeebags.com, and at quilt shows all over the eastern seaboard. Throughout her sewing journey, Joan’s been an enthusiastic garment construction, quilting and handbag construction teacher. Her classes and workshops focus on innovative techniques that result in more professional results. She also shares her love of textile and home-sewing history with quilting and sewing guilds nationwide with lively and informative presentations.

Quilted Sneakers

The shoes are made from 2 layers of fabric quilted to a foam interfacing. The instructions are designed for 3 fat quarters (one for exterior, one for the lining (which can be flipped to the exterior on the tongue) and one for the bias binding that finishes the edges.
If you signed up for the class, Elaine Mayer needs to know your shoe size (European). The size is identical to Dansko or Birkenstock. Look on the white take of a great fitting shoe to see the size. Also, Elaine needs to know the color of the sole you wish; white or black. * If you want extra soles (cost $65 each) you should contact Joan at Bucklebeebags@gmail.com*

Please note: Class will be held at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 1 Hagerty Blvd. West Chester PA (near Fedex). This is an 8 hour class, please be on time.

Cost: $130
